A very important part of being a cigar smoker – having the right equipment for the job! If you tend to buy a cigar and smoke it almost immediately then this won’t really be applicable. BUT if you buy in bulk or like to have a variety of flavors on hand then you absolutely MUST invest in a quality humidor. When it comes to choosing the best cigar humidor I use Cigar Cigar Info for the latest information.
Humidors are used to control the climate to store your cigars in the best way possible. Cigars are fragile pieces of art and need to be taken care of well. They need to be stored at a specific humidity level which should reflect as best as possible the climate where the tobacco is grown. From Cigar Cigar Info’s Best Cigar Humidor Review I have learnt that the optimal storage conditions for cigars are:
- Humidity: 68-74%
- Max Temperature: 73°F (23°C)
- Ideal Conditions: 70°F (21°C) and 70% humidity.
If you don’t use a humidor then depending on the climate you live in you can expect your cigar to last 1- 2 weeks. If you are very sporadic with your cigar smoking then that’s totally fine but if not then stop what you are doing and check out some humidors online!
Without the right care cigars will do all sorts of things including:
- Burning too fast
- Bitter taste
- Difficulty lighting the cigar
Oh as a final note, NEVER store your cigars in a fridge!! For short periods you can store them in a sealable, ziploc plastic bag.
How to Choose a Cigar Humidor
There are a few things you must look for when making your choice but the fun part is that the style is the main thing! I’m yet to find a good quality pink cigar humidor BUT I am always on the lookout.
Of course the style comes after the functionality so make sure that is your first priority.
Things to consider:
- The amount of cigars you want to store
- The style – table top, travel etc (I personally recommend a table top humidor)
- Material – the inside should be made from Spanish cedar wood. Not all wood is suitable for the humidity levels so be sure to check this out.
- Reliable and accurate gauge to read the humidity level.
My Personal Favorite
Like I said, I’m still waiting on a pink humidor but until then I’m more than happy with my La Cubana Humidor!
The humidor is incredibly stylish and looks sexy on my desk. It’s also quite inconspicuous and blends in well with my office furniture. It is made from scratch- resistance cherry wood and has some metal on the framework.
The interior is dried cedar which is great news for my cigars being stored in it. I find that the cedar seriously enhances the flavor and aroma of my cigars too.
I can store up to 30 cigars inside of it and it has two compartments for me to separate cigars.
The only thing I don’t like is that there isn’t a glass top so I can look down and admire my cigars but that’s ok.
Importance of Humidors!
I hope this post has helped shed some light on why it’s so important to store your cigars correctly. Incase you didn’t already pick up on it – I highly recommend investing in a quality humidor! Let me know your thoughts in the comments – have you found the pink humidor I have been searching for? What’s your favorite humidor?
